Peace-Building and Reconciliation

Conference January 2012 — Sustainable Peace Building and Cooperative Livelihoods

This conference will be held in Kampala. It includes all parties to the conflict for the first time since 2006. The goal is to build a sustainable future of cooperation between all people in Darfur, not just “Africans” or just “Arabs”, but everyone. We consider that Darfur’s future must be held in the hands of its people who are best placed to make change. As a result, this project aims to empower the local population and give them the tools by which they can make their own decisions about the kind of society they wish to live in. Through this project, we will produce a roadmap for the people to act by themselves for themselves with external assistance from those interested in developing Darfur for the future.

About Peace-Building and Reconciliation

DRDO’s main objective is to achieve peace through sustainable projects where Darfurian people, regardless of their differences, can share the same facility that allows them or enables them to talk to each other and share with each other.

The DRDO Peace-building and reconciliation plan builds its programs in tiers:

  • To build peace from the grassroots level,
  • To then move to reconciliation,
  • To create and strengthen tolerance through peaceful coexistence,
  • To finally move toward conflict management and conflict transformation
